{"id":15040,"date":"2025-06-24T09:16:06","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T09:16:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diamondleague.com\/?p=15040"},"modified":"2025-06-24T09:16:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T09:16:08","slug":"stona-and-alekna-clash-in-stellar-london-discus-line-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diamondleague.com\/stona-and-alekna-clash-in-stellar-london-discus-line-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Stona and Alekna clash in stellar London discus line-up"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Olympic champion and the world record holder will go head to head in a star-studded discus line-up at the Wanda Diamond League next month as the Road to the Final continues in one of the series&#8217; most fiercely contested disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jamaica&#8217;s Roje Stona, who won Olympic gold in Paris last year, goes up against a world-class field which includes Lithuanian world record breaker Mykolas Alekna, Swedish legend Daniel St\u00e5hl\u00a0and British star Lawrence Okoye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stona is chasing his first ever Diamond League win, after making his series debut with a second-place finish in Rome last season and finishing sixth in Stockholm earlier this month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alekna has broken the world record three times in the last year, most recently with a 75.56m throw in Ramona Oklahoma in April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St\u00e5hl\u00a0is a two-time world and Diamond League champion and was the reigning Olympic champion until Stona stole his title last summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 13-time Diamond League meeting winner, the Swedish giant&#8217;s last victory on the circuit came in London two years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the Wanda Diamond League<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field.
