Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Mondo Duplantis are the first international stars to confirm their attendance at this year’s Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich on August 27-28. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
World record holders and Olympic champions in the women’s high jump and men’s pole vault respectively, Mahuchikh and Duplantis will both compete at the street event in front of Zurich’s opera house on the first day of the final on August 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ukrainian high jumper and Swedish pole vaulter were among the first athletes to secure qualification for the Final this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Duplantis cruised into the Final with five wins in five Diamond League competitions so far this year, including a world record 6.28m at his home meeting in Stockholm last month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mahuchikh has had a mixed season with three defeats in her last three Diamond League appearances, but secured qualification early on thanks to back-to-back wins in the opening meetings in Xiamen and Keqiao. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both are looking to extend their recent title streaks, with Mahuchikh aiming for a fourth Diamond Trophy and Duplantis eyeing a fifth successive series win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Victory in this year’s final would see Duplantis move to within just two titles of the series record seven, currently held by his friend, idol and rival Renaud Lavillenie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mahuchikh, meanwhile, could equal Russian rival Mariya Lasitskene’s record of four high jump titles, making her the joint most successful female high jumper in Diamond League history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27 and 28 August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first day of the Final will be held as a street event at Zurich’s Sechsel\u00e4utenplatz and will feature five field disciplines: \u00a0the men\u2019s pole vault, the women\u2019s high jump, the men\u2019s long jump and the men\u2019s and women\u2019s shot put.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The remaining 27 disciplines will all be staged at the Letzigrund Stadium on the second day of the final in a bumper four-hour programme of world class athletics. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
