World record breaker Ryan Crouser will headline the men’s shot put at the Wanda Diamond League Silesia on July 16th, as he bids to regain the Diamond Trophy in 2023. <\/p>\n
Crouser made headlines last weekend when he smashed his own world record with an enormous throw of 23.56m at the Los Angeles Grand Prix. <\/p>\n
Fans in Silesia will be hoping to see more record-breaking stuff from the American in July, with Crouser insisting that he can go even further this season. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really excited because it didn\u2019t feel polished,\u201d Crouser explained after his world record. \u201cIt felt like I had a tonne of power and I caught a big one.\u201d <\/p>\n
Crouser believes his new technique, which involves a larger step across the ring, can open up the possibility of even bigger throws. <\/p>\n
\u201cI finally saw that spread I\u2019ve been looking for,\u201d he said in Los Angeles. \u201cThat\u2019s what has me the most excited.\u201d<\/p>\n
As well as chasing another potential world record, the American will be hoping to regain the Diamond League record, which he held for a year until Joe Kovacs’ title-winning 23.23m knocked him off top spot in last year’s final. <\/p>\n
Having won his first Diamond League title in 2021, Crouser is also out to regain the Diamond Trophy from Kovacs this summer. <\/p>\n
The Wanda Diamond League Silesia is the eighth leg of athletics’ premier one-day meeting series. It comprises 14 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 13 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on 16th-17th September.<\/p>\n
