Faith Kipyegon will be aiming for a second gold medal of the week when she lines up in the women’s 5000m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest this Saturday evening. <\/p>\n
The Kenyan star claimed gold in the 1500m on Wednesday, adding a third world title to her growing list of global gongs over the distance. She is yet to win any Olympic or world golds over 5000m, but the 29-year-old will still rank among the favourites on Saturday after her historic exploits in the Wanda Diamond League this season. <\/p>\n
In June and July, Kipyegon became the first athlete in Diamond League history to break a world record in multiple disciplines, and the first to break more than one world record in a single season. <\/p>\n
While her 1500m world record of 3:49.11 in Florence had been some time coming, her 5000m record in Paris came completely out of the blue, with Kipyegon even admitting that she was tired before she clocked 14:05.20 at the Stade Charlety.<\/p>\n
A month later in Monaco, she completed her hat-trick of world records with 4:07.64 in the mile, breaking the previous record which Sifan Hassan had set at the same Diamond League meeting four years earlier. <\/p>\n
