{"id":3330,"date":"2024-04-10T07:21:17","date_gmt":"2024-04-10T07:21:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diamondleague.com\/discus-heavyweights-line-up-in-oslo\/"},"modified":"2024-04-10T07:21:17","modified_gmt":"2024-04-10T07:21:17","slug":"discus-heavyweights-line-up-in-oslo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diamondleague.com\/discus-heavyweights-line-up-in-oslo\/","title":{"rendered":"Discus heavyweights line up in Oslo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three of the world&#8217;s biggest discus stars will line up at the Bislett Stadium in Oslo on May 30th, as reigning Wanda Diamond League champion Matthew Denny takes on Olympic champion Daniel&nbsp;St\u00e5hl and former world champion Kristjan&nbsp;\u010ceh.<\/p>\n<p>Australian thrower Denny claimed a stunning victory in the Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene last year, stealing the title from under the noses of favourites&nbsp;\u010ceh and&nbsp;St\u00e5hl with a national record of 68.43m.<\/p>\n<p>\u010ceh was crowned Diamond League champion a year earlier, becoming the first Slovenian ever to win the series title. He is one of the few athletes to have won every Diamond League competition in a single season, and his five victories in 2022 were part of a total winning streak of eight Diamond League triumphs in a row, as the Slovenian dominated the discus in 2022 and early 2023.<\/p>\n<p>St\u00e5hl is a two-time Diamond Trophy holder, having won the series title in 2019 and defended it in 2021, when he too collected a clean sweep of four victories on the Diamond League circuit. The Swede also goes into 2024 as the reigning Olympic champion, having claimed the gold medal in Tokyo in 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The three heavyweights will&nbsp; be joined by a world-class field which includes Jamaican star Fedrick Daces, Lithuania&#8217;s 2017 world champion Andrius Gudzius, world number three Mykolas Alekna and Sweden&#8217;s Simon Petterson.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field.
